Details:
If you were to walk the full length of The Lycian Way, Turkey’s first long distance footpath, you would have covered nearly 500 km of marked trails along dramatic coastline and mountain terrain, using a network of ancient roads, shepherd’s paths and forest tracks. Bougainville Travel can arrange for just such an adventure if you are hardy and fit; however, for those who are simply looking for a day outing, BT provides daily walks along select sections of this famous trail. A great option for those who do not want to spend their entire vacation lying on the beach!
Kaş is surrounded by mountainous land on the western fringes of the Toros Mountain Range. The melting snow from the Akdağlar (White Mountains) and Beydağlar (Bey Mountains) create narrow gorges and canyons that provide water and alluvial soil to the rich fertile plains of the Xanthos Valley, Demre and Finike.

Ancient Phellos Lycian Tomb above Kaş, Turkey
You will stroll through unspoiled ancient city ruins, temples, and characteristic local villages. Lycia has over 70 ancient sites with sunken ports and hilltop forts and castles. You will walk on easy paths, which pass through dramatically rich Mediterranean maquis or coastal vegetation, and view snowy hills, hidden canyons, green valleys and cool water springs. You will observe an amazing variety of fossils, birds (birds of prey, partridges, song birds, and seasonal shore birds), plants (sage, thyme, bulb flowers, endemic plants such as Mediterranean orchids) and other wilderness.
Kaş is roughly at the half-way point on the Lycian Way. As much of the route is coastal the best time to tackle the route (or bits of it!) is in Spring or Autumn. It may be too hot during July or August for some trekkers. November is almost always one of the best months to go walking here. Weather-wise it’s comparable to a (good!) Northern European summer but the days are a bit shorter. The sea is still warm and you can sit out in the evenings. But the crowds have gone home and you can mostly have the trails to yourself and the spectacular ancient sites are all but deserted.
Children must be accompanied by parents or guardian at all times. Children should be 12 years old or older. Not suitable for most children under 12 years of age.
