Activity briefing

The ancient city of Simena was located on the peninsula of the Tristomos Bay and dates back to the fourth century BC.

The Crusader Castle was built on the fortifications of a much older citadel and has a magnificent view of the Kekova area. There are gnarled olive trees, hundreds of years old, next to stone sarcophagi which are shaped like houses.

Below the castle is a small seven-tiered theatre and you will see an ancient tomb submerged in the water in the harbour.

Across the bay along Kekova Island are half-submerged ruins of the city sunk by earthquake in the second century AD. You will be able to see remains of stone foundations beneath your boat and on the land staircases seemingly going to nowhere, with remains of abandoned houses.

There are also strangely shaped rock islands that have been hollowed out as they were used as stone quarries and later as dwellings.

Please note that swimming or snorkelling over the sunken village itself is not allowed as it is a protected area.

Starting time

10:00 am, please be at the Bougainville Travel office 15 minutes before departure time. Please note that swimming or snorkelling over the sunken village itself is not allowed as it is a protected area.

Itinerary

We will depart from Kaş Harbour at 10:00 am sharp and sail towards Inonu Bay. At Inonu Bay we take our first swimming break in the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean.

Then we continue to sail towards Aquarium Bay. This bay is situated between two little islets and perfect for snorkelling. Here, our crew will prepare a tasty barbequed lunch and it will be served on deck. After lunch we sail to Tersane Bay and the sunken city of Kekova.

The boat will continue towards picturesque Simena, a charming town that has changed little over the years. Here you’ll have a break to explore the castle fortress which dates back to Roman and Byzantium times, as well as the Necropolis are of this ancient Lycian settlement.

Then we head to Yaglica Bay and have our third swimming break here before we set sail back to Kas arriving at 18.00.
