Go Canyon Walking

There is no better place in the Med for a family holiday with a difference than the Turquoise Coast of Turkey. The sea is clear, the countryside is full of charming villages and crumbling ruins, and the mountains are green and cool. Our base, the port town of Kaş (pronounced ‘cash’), has not succumbed to mass tourism but does have a good choice of family friendly restaurants and cafés, ideal for relaxation after an active day. Kaş has plenty of swimming spots and a short drive or boat trip will take us to some lovely beaches. There are a host of activities included and plenty more optional extras available to book locally, from diving to sea kayaking, boat trips to canyon walks; making this tour suitable for all families.

Day 1

Fly to Dalaman
Fly to Dalaman, transfer to Kas.

Day 2

Limanagzi
Today’s boat trip will take us to the three beaches of Limanagzi, in a small bay opposite Kas. There are water activities such as canoes, paddleboats (subject to availibility), diving platforms and a small variety of restaurants serving traditional dishes.

Day 3

Saklikent Canyon
Saklikent Canyon is one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in the region; waterfalls cascade into the rapid flowing and extremely cold Esen River, which over millennia has cut a deep canyon through the ancient rocks. Using a walkway we explore the mouth of the canyon and can progress further in by getting our feet wet! Time permitting there is also the opportunity to go tubing after the Canyon Walk (minimum ages apply). After lunch we visit Patara Beach in the Patara National Park, often voted as one of the best in the entire Mediterranean.

Day 4

Diving day
Today is a free day allowing you to try diving, or relax by the pool. For beginners we recommend the Try Dive course which is a half-day session and consists of an introductory video and a one-to-one dive with an instructor, going no deeper than 8 metres below the surface. Qualified divers can opt for 1 or 2 dives.

Day 5

Town market
Every Friday morning in Kas a colourful local market takes place with a wonderful variety of fruit and vegetables along with clothes and household goods. Many villagers from the mountains also attend and you will have the option to travel into the area they live in this afternoon. You can opt to experience rural Turkish life by spending the night in a basic, traditional village house with communal sleeping rooms – however we can also sleep out under the stars (weather permitting).

Day 6

Rope park
You will have the chance to prove your courage and skill at Kas’ new Rope Park in a forest setting. Flying high above the ground, equipped with climbing ropes, harnesses and helmets you will will get an adrenaline rush on the many challenges! This afternoon you will have time to wind down after the week’s activities.

Day 7

Sea kayaking
An introduction to sea kayaking in the calm waters of the Turquoise Coast. Depending on local conditions, our kayaking trip may include areas in and around Big Pebble Beach, Çoban Bay, Limanagzi beach, Çukurbag Peninsula, Akçagerme Beach and Incebogaz.

Day 8

Fly to London
Transfer to Dalaman, fly to London.

Essential info

Vaccinations and Visa

Holders of UK, Austrian, Irish, Portuguese, Spanish and US passports require visas. From 10 April 2014 it will no longer be possible to purchase a Turkish visa on arrival. This can now be obtained online at https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/ for approximately US$20. The visa is valid for a stay of up to three months (dependent on passport holder’s nationality). For a longer stay a visa from a Turkish Embassy is required. Visa regulations can change without notice; please check the current regulations in good time to obtain the appropriate visa if required.
There are no mandatory vaccination requirements. Bilharzia is known to occur in some of the lakes or rivers visited on this itinerary, we therefore advise all to take advice from your guide or leader locally before venturing for a swim. We recommend you take the usual precautions to avoid mosquito bites. You may wish to consult your GP or travel health clinic for further advice.

Eating & drinking

All breakfasts and 3 lunches are included in the tour.

Holiday style

This is a trip designed to keep all family members entertained and you may choose to be as active or relaxed as you please; although there are a host of included activities, there are plenty more bookable locally.
Many of the activities have specific age requirements; it is therefore important to thoroughly read the section of the Trip Notes entitled ‘Land Only Itinerary’.
Please also note that July and August can be very hot. If any of your family find high temperatures difficult to cope with, then you may wish to travel at another time.
