Both domestic and international travel could be difficult or crowded in Turkey and other countries with significant Muslim populations during this time. Although no specific day is fixed in the Koran the sacrificing of animals was already practiced on the last day of the pilgrimage by the pre-Islamic Arabs and the institution was duly retained how does weed stay in your hair.

Muslim families sacrifice an animal in commemoration of the ram sacrificed by Abraham in place of his son. See “The Sacrifice Of Abraham: Isaac or Ishmael?

A special prayer is also offered on this day before the animals are sacrificed. The meat is divided into three parts. The family retains one third of the share; another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbours; and the other third is given to the poor and needy.

NOTE:
Many cities have enacted regulations to keep the slaughter of animals in their proper places and only performed by authorised persons. In rural areas, foreigners may be surprised or shocked to see these sacrifices take place in the open areas or within the gardens of villagers.

For more on this see “The silence of the goats” by Jane Tuna, Wednesday, November 25, 2009.
“For Muslims it is customary for goats or sheep to be sacrificed in celebration of the Feast of the Sacrifice, or Kurban Bayramı as it is known in Turkey.”
