Ayşe Bulut Sakarya, is the front office account manager for Bougainville Travel. Ayşe was born in Kaş but because her father worked in Ziraat Bank, she lived in Finike for several years and finished elementary school there. After the close of the family business, Ayşe worked with Simena Turizm, one of the first established tourism companies. She started as a secretary, later worked in reservations, the tours department and also front office accounting. They mainly worked as an incoming agency. They expanded and had 13 or 14 branches but with the first Gulf War, a crisis hit Turkish tourism and they had to scale back their many operations and several branches were closed, Kaş among them. Ayşe was offered work in another office but she declined the offer to move. After several months she joined Bougainville Travel in 2002 as the ön muhasebe or front office accountant. She is responsible for all payments, follows all cash flow, controls and checks the invoices and other accounting duties. She is one of the office personnel who works year round. During the winter months is “catch-up” time and preparing for the new season which starts in April.

Ayşe and Kemal at their wedding

Ayşe and Kemal at their wedding

Ayşe got married in 2010 to Kemal Sakara, the long time manager of Phellos Hotel. They have known each other for a long time and their friendship blossomed into something more and they decided to get married. They like to travel in the winter to İzmir or İstanbul or go on small trips to Fethiye or Antalya. Ayşe is happy to be married, she enjoys her life with Kemal and thinks they get along well.

According to Ayşe, difficulties in the tourism sector are the diversity of the industry. If she worked in another sector, the work might have been easier but she likes what she is doing and the friendly atmosphere at the office with the “bosses.” It is important for her to be under the same roof and share every day life with her colleagues and also to maintain a professional relationship.

Ayşe believes the positive relationship between the partners (Phil, Ufuk and Tevfik) is the main reason for the success of Bougainville Travel. This relationship is reflected onto the company and makes for a successful business. She sees this as team work and she enjoys it because the staff work together in harmony.
