An adventure sport requires you to have a realistic awareness of your mental condition; be prepared to focus on the tour guide, his or her instructions and the event at hand. Knowing the limits of your physical condition is important. Unless a group is engaging in semi-professional competition, our adventure activities are meant to be FUN as well as challenging, therefore honesty about your physical fitness can determine the quality of your adventure experience.

Last but certainly not least is knowing in advance your equipment needs. Bougainville provides almost all the equipment you will need such as helmets, wet suits, dive regulators, mountain bikes and so on. You need to make sure you have plenty of water for those hot sunny afternoons. Bring at least 1.5 liters or more if you can carry it. Know your water needs.

For almost all adventure activities sun cream, sunglasses with a string to hold them on your neck, and a hat, preferably one that will shade all around, not just the front. If you bring a camera, make sure it has some kind of cord to hold it around your neck or to your body as well as a waterproof cover suitable for such activities. A dry bag to hold your extra clothes when you finish your activity is often overlooked.

Sturdy ankle boots

You need to have sturdy footwear that can get wet and still be worn well. For canyoning, sturdy ankle boots, properly broken in before you arrive and at least two pair of socks to prevent foot blisters is important. It is easy to twist an ankle without good, solid footwear and spoil the fun for everyone and even make you a casualty when it is so easy to be prepared. Even though you will be wearing a wet suit, a thermal undershirt will help to prevent the inevitable chilling from the canyon water. The best months for canyoning by the way are between late May or early June until late September.

For sea kayaking it is recommended that you bring swim goggles or a dive mask and snorkle as part of the trip includes swimming over the sunken city. Sandles, dive booties or canvas (tennis) shoes are necessary. A towel of course and dry shorts and an extra t-shirt. It is recommended that you wear a t-shirt under the life vest while kayaking to afford some protection from the sun and the movement of your arms under the life vest.

If you bring your children for a family holiday, remember that some activities require that children be over 12 and sometimes 15 years of age. Inquire about that while planning your activities. Kayaking, Scuba diving, Canyoning and Mountain Biking are not suitable for younger children. If requested in advance, child care can be arranged for a day, a morning or an afternoon.
